At about 4am on Saturday morning, I heard the sound of Mady’s bedroom door opening which woke me. I then heard my door open and Mady came into my room but did not say anything. She simply walked to the foot of my bed, touched my feet under the covers, turned around and walked out of the room. She walked back to her room, closed her door and tucked herself back in. That was it, the extent of her actions.
I lay in bed for a little thinking about what she had done and then went and checked on her. She was back asleep as if she had not made the venture into my room. I am sure Madyson knew I was home, but for whatever reason, she was questioning her faith. She needed some reassurance that I was home and ventured out not to wake me, but just to reassure herself that I was there.
Hebrews 13:5 ~ "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Many times we need reminders that that although we cannot see the Lord, he is always there. This need for a reminder does not mean we lack faith, it merely means we are human. The Lord knows we are human and are prone to make wrong decisions, lose our way and question his existence.
One definition of faith is “a firm belief in something for which there is no proof”. Although this is true to some extent, there is proof all around us that the Lord exists. We do not have to look far to see the miracles the Lord provides to us every day. The sun rises and sets, the waves crash and the wind blows, there is birth and there is death. Many of us take these daily miracles for granted, but they are constant reminders of the power of the Lord.
If we look in Exodus, Moses provided many examples of the Lords presence to the Israelites as he led them out of Egypt. The Israelites were witness to many of the Lord’s miracles, from the parting of the Red Sea, food when they were hungry and he even presented himself to them at the base of Mt. Sinai. Even with these miracles, some lost their faith.
2 Corinthians 5: 6-7 ~ “Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight.”
Even in times of despair, when all hope is gone, there is a reason why the phrase “Have Faith” is often stated. We are here for a purpose, part of the Lord’s plan. The Lord is constantly working miracles around us, we just have to be open to seeing those miracles to help give us the reassurance we need to believe and have Faith in the Lord.

As Madyson knew I was there, but needed reassurance, Christians sometimes need reassurance that the Lord is also still there. We do not need to touch the feet of Jesus to believe, we just need to be a witness to the miracles around us, and recognize they that happen around us.
